My love for the Instant Pot is strong. It makes great cilantro lime rice, potato salad, and hard-boiled eggs—yes, really! Make hard-boiled eggs with the Instant Pot quick and easy using the 5-5-5 cooking method.

Hard-boiled eggs are the perfect snack, protein-packed breakfast on the go, or used in recipes like scotch eggs, deviled eggs, or salads. Not to mention, they turn a beautiful array of colors during Easter time!

Why You'll Love This Recipe
- A foolproof way to make hard-boiled eggs
- Easy to peel
- Another way to use the Instant Pot
Featured Ingredients
- Eggs - Large eggs work great. There is no need for the eggs to be old. I have used farm fresh eggs and grocery store eggs, and they all peel great!
- Water - Used to bring the Instant Pot up to pressure.
- Ice Cubes - Needed to cool down the eggs and stop the cooking process.
See the recipe card for the exact measurements and complete instructions. Selected ingredients are based on current serving sizes measured by the Monash University Food App at the time of publishing. As always, follow your gut and modify as needed.
Step-By-Step Instructions
Using the trivet the Instant Pot came with and a steamer basket if you have one. Place the trivet below the steamer basket in the liner. Add the water to the liner.
Gently place the eggs in the basket. Cover the Instant Pot and set the valve to sealing. Set the pressure time to five minutes.
Once the Instant Pot beeps, indicating the cooking time is done, allow the pot to naturally release for five minutes.
Release any remaining pressure by venting the pressure valve. When the pin drops, open the cover. Gently remove the eggs with tongs and place them in an ice bath for five minutes. Then drain and store eggs in the refrigerator. Peel eggs as needed.
Tips and Tricks
- Do you need hard-boiled eggs but don't want to peel them individually? Make an egg loaf! Spray an oven-safe dish that fits inside the Instant Pot liner, and crack the eggs into the prepared dish. Complete instructions can be found in the recipe for Instant Pot Potato Salad.
- Use brown eggs! It is easier to spot a bit of shell when peeling.
Storing and Reheating
Store: Keep hard-boiled eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to seven days - peeled or unpeeled.
Reheating: Peel and cut the egg in half and microwave for 15-30 seconds. Add salt and pepper if wanted.
Meal Planning
Hard-boiled eggs are the perfect low FODMAP snack. Add them to Bento boxes to increase the protein for lunch. I love to sprinkle a bit of Everything But The Bagel seasoning from Smoke and Sanity. Chop them up and add them to salads, toast or potato salad.
