The recipe is simple, almost too simple. Fresh lemon juice brings the tart, puckering flavor we all love. The sugar brings in the sweetness and easily dissolves in the hot water, so there is zero grit. Pour it all over a tall glass of ice—simple ingredients for the perfect lemonade.
Heat ¼ cup of water in the microwave for thirty seconds. If you do not have a microwave, use a small saucepan on the stove. It is important to use hot water to be sure the sugar dissolves.
Pour the warm water into a mason jar or regular glass and add the sugar. Mix sugar into the hot water until it completely dissolves.
Grab some large lemons. Slice them in half and squeeze the juice into a small bowl. Squeeze out as much juice as you can. Pick out any seeds and discard them. If you do not want pulp in your lemonade, strain the juice with a fine mesh strainer.
Add the lemon juice and the rest of the water to the glass. Stir until combined.
