Create Christmas Simmer Pots to simmer on your stovetop. Using a stovetop potpourri versus a scented candle is a natural way to create a festive-smelling house.
Slice the orange with a sharp knife on a cutting board.
Grab a large, heavy-bottomed pot like a Dutch oven or a stock pot and add the cranberries, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, whole allspice, and fresh pine sprig.
Add fresh water to the pot so the ingredients are covered.
Place the pot on the stovetop over low heat.
Turn off the heat when the simmer pot is no longer wanted. The next day, add more fresh water if needed. The simmer pot can be used for up to three days or until it no longer smells good. If a longer timeframe is needed, refrigerate the cooled simmer pot between uses.
Discard the ingredients after 2-3 days if kept on stovetop or after seven days when stored in the refrigerator between uses.
Notes
Can I drink the simmer pot? By all means you can because it is edible, however I think a mug of warm cranberry juice with orange slices would taste better.
